We have been very busy over the past few weeks continuing with our Unit of Inquiry about healthy living. We began to focus on developing healthy habits - for example washing our hands, and brushing our teeth. We conducted a few experiments to explore germs, and used a model of teeth to practice brushing. We also went to the theatre to see 'The Little Mermaid'.
This week we started our final Unit of Inquiry for this year - with a focus on being balanced, healthy living, and being safe. Thank you so much to all the parents that sent in healthy fruit this week to share among our class. The children tried kiwis, apples, bananas, oranges, grapefruit, melon, watermelon, grapes, pineapple, and lemon. We did a lot of work around healthy and unhealthy things, and we looked at various lunchboxes to decide who had really healthy lunches. We also began each day with a 5 minute yoga exercise. We will continue looking at healthy and unhealthy foods next week, and move our focus to personal care and hygiene.
On Thursday we had a fantastic day where we celebrated 'Earth Day'. The children dressed in blue and green, while the teachers dressed up as the characters from the Lorax movie. We went to the theatre to watch the Lorax, and also walked around the school collecting litter. The children also created fantastic projects at home using recycled materials. We are going to try to continue our work to keep the Earth clean.
We had a great first week back after Spring Break, doing lots of hands-on activities - like melting chocolate to make rice krispie buns, building boats using recycled materials, and also sorting objects by colour and type. Have a look at our pictures to see what we got up to this week :)
Today all the students in KG 1 and KG 2 had a special performance to honour their moms. We made Mother's Day cards, and sang some songs to show our moms how much we love them. We did Kg1B proud :) Happy holidays everyone and see you in April!
We continued using materials to build towers towards the end of this week, and began to test the properties of materials, in particular if they were waterproof. We loved playing with the water, and testing if our predictions were right!
We've had a really busy few days in Kg1B, exploring and learning all about the properties of various materials. We had great fun using magnets to check whether things in our classroom were magnetic or not, and also building towers using materials of our choice. Have a look at us during our inquiry below!
